Born in South Africa and raised under the California sun, I’ve been immersed in tennis for as long as I can remember. After playing at UCLA and spending years teaching at country clubs, I’ve seen it all—the tantrums, the drama, the scandals and the over-the-top obsession with “moving up a rating and becoming the local league champion.” Some members over the years have compared me to Gordon Ramsay or Simon Cowell—whether they meant it as a compliment or not, I’ll take it. Like them, I try to cut through the nonsense with brutal honesty, tough love, and just the right amount of ridicule to help you improve your game (and laugh while you’re at it).
Deep down, I love the game, but the lunacy of the country club scene eventually drove me off the court and into this blog. Now, I’m here to poke fun at coaches, players, and the wild world of recreational tennis while offering simple, no-nonsense pointers to help you enjoy the game and get some exercise. Let’s keep it real, have some laughs, and remember why we play in the first place: because tennis is supposed to be fun. Never forget, you are training for the weekend, not Wimbledon!
